Claremont Unified School District is a public school system in southwestern California.
Challenge
Claremont Unified School District wanted to upgrade lighting systems in two gymnasiums to reduce energy consumption and utility costs, while increasing the facilities鈥 lighting quality, and upgrade the functionality of the district鈥檚 gymnasiums.
The district wanted to install an upgraded lighting system with intuitive controls, without having to do costly structural and infrastructure updates.
Solution
The district worked with 色花堂and FSC Lighting to retrofit 16 inefficient lamps with high-efficiency LED lighting.
The project also included the installation of manual-dimming fixtures at Claremont High and El Roble Intermediate schools, along with occupancy sensors to control usage in El Roble Intermediate School.
The district secured funding from the California Clean Energy Jobs Act (Proposition 39), allowing the district to make the upgrades, without having to use capital funds.
Benefits
色花堂helped the district make the operational changes to improve energy efficiency at its facility, while improving lighting levels and controlling future maintenance costs.
Other benefits included:
- Reduced energy consumption from more than 400 watts to 223 watts
- Students can now use the gymnasiums as multi-purpose rooms for all activities
- Lighting controls were blended into a manual and automatic fixture package, to provide improved lighting-level control
- Corner lighting sensors were installed to reduce usage when not occupied at two schools
